Golf Shorts vs Etiquette on the course: the do’s and the don’t

“Are we able to wear your golf shorts on the course?”.

This was a question that we at Zeon Golf received over the weekend. The short answer is yes. But the question did get us thinking about etiquette on a course and why people can think shorts aren’t allowed. You don’t need us to tell you that when it comes to golf, the way you dress matters. Not only should your golf clothes help improve your performance but your appearance is often interpreted by others as a mark of respect for the game of golf and the venue where you are playing.

Shorts are a key part of any golfer’s wardrobe. If I asked you to think of your ideal round of golf, I don’t imagine you’d respond by saying a cloudy day in January. The sun is shining, you are with your mates, those are the days that you wish for when playing golf. And on those days, you’ll want to be feeling comfortable, you will want to be wearing a pair of shorts.

So let’s look at 4 tips for how you can strike the right balance between your choice of golf shorts and the etiquette expected on the course.

Does the Course have a specific dress code?

Some courses have specific guidelines regarding the wearing of golf shorts, including rules relating to the length of the shorts and the fabric used. Luckily for you, we haven’t found a course that would exclude our Petrini golf shorts  but it is worth checking for specific guidelines if you are wearing other brands to ensure they are in keeping with a venue’s expectations.

 Whatever they say, length matters!

We’ve all been there. It’s a hot day and you want to wear a shorter, more breathable pair of shorts. But whilst these shorts may be more comfortable, excessively short shorts may not be suitable for a golf course. As a general rule, you should aim to have shorts that fall just above the knee, which ensures a smart and respectful appearance. Our Petrini shorts are also made out of lightweight, breathable fabric, meaning that you’ll still get the breathability typically expected from much shorter shorts.

  They need to fit… properly!

A pair of well-fitting golf shorts is a necessity, not only for style but also for performance. The last thing you need when lining up a putt on the 18th for double bogey is a pair of shorts flapping around in the wind. Just because they are shorts, does not mean that they can’t be tapered to properly fit the golfer. Here at Zeon Golf, we are committed to creating well-fitting, modern golf clothing and our shorts are no different!

  Respect others!

The game of golf; it’s a game for gentlemen. A game where you should support your fellow competitors and the best player on the day should win. It’s a game that requires concentration and focus, which is where some less-premium golf brands can let themselves down. Avoiding loud patterns or overly flashy designs can distract your fellow competitor, so striking the right balance between subtly-modern style and traditional clothing is one that is hard to master.

We hope those 4 tips are helpful! Get the right pair of golf shorts, they can be both functional and stylish, helping you to look good and play even better! But get them wrong, it can lead to you feeling uncomfortable, which will not only impact how you play but could also prevent you from playing all-together!

Swing easy out there brothers!
