The British Open Championship - What you need to know!

With just over a fortnight until the start of the 151st Open Championship, which this year is held at Royal Liverpool, we wanted to bring you three of the big talking points you need to know!

Can the bookies favourite bring it home?

Sky Bet has him as favourite at 15/2, but can Rory McIlroy finally break his 9-year wait and bring home another major? We certainly hope so and dare we say it, it does look likely after his performance at the US Open Championship last week.

During the US Open Championship, Rory was solid with the driver, regularly sending his drives 350+ yards and splitting the fairway! Also with a putter in hand, he never seemed to struggle for read or pace and his putting was top draw all week.

So we’ll be keeping our eyes on Rory and all of us here at Zeon Golf are hoping he can bring his next major home!

We’ll miss the GOAT!

All-round GOAT, and former World Number One Tiger Woods, will unfortunately miss the 2023 Open Championship. Tiger announced that whilst he was hopeful he would be able to compete, he has been unable to sufficiently recover from his injury and will therefore miss the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.

Having previously won the 2006 Open Championship at Holylake, we’re sure fans around the country were hoping to catch a glimpse of Tiger, in what will be the final major of the season. However, the injury that prevented him playing in the US Open Championship last week has unfortunately ruled him out of the upcoming Open Championship.

We wish you all the best Tiger and hopefully will see you competing for another major next year!

A familiar face in the regional qualifying rounds!

Regional Qualifying will be taking place at 15 venues across Great Britain and Ireland on Monday 26th June and there is a familiar face taking part! Lee Cardy, winner of the PGA Trainee of the Year 2022 and Zeon Golf ambassador, is taking part in the qualifying round at Lindrick Golf Club, one of Britain’s finest golf courses and host of the 1957 Ryder Cup.

Lee has been playing well all year, and we are wishing him all the best! Hopefully we’ll be seeing him on the final day of the Open Championship in a couple of weeks 😉 You can track Lee’s score, as well as updates from all Regional Qualifying rounds, by clicking here.
